The US Military (and the military of other nations) are becoming more heavily invested in drones such as the Reaper and Predator.
The US Navy is moving ahead with its unmanned X47B program (above).
How survivable are these aircraft in a battlefield environment where the enemy isn't living in the Bronze Age, carrying 20th Century small arms? Take a look here (LINK) at Heartache Noise.
I don't know the answer to my question, I'm simply posing it for the sake of discussion.

Such warfare is impersonal and terroristic.
As an American, looks OK to me.
Opus - the Russian device renders the controls of drones ineffective in theory.
Mr. Mc - I like swords better but the blush is off the rose and it doesn't make sense to bring a sword to a gun fight.
Russian technology soon on its way to a "friendly" Mideast country near you....
There's probably too much terrain interference for these to be effective in Pakistan. What do you think?
Who dat? Who dat? Who dat be dropping dem bombs?
I think the drones are great. If the technology holds, there is no difference (in effectiveness) between a pilot sitting on the other side of the planet, with the added safety for the pilots (and easier on his parents).
...oh, and only its misuse makes it terroristic. War is hell.
disclaimer before i post. I am an Army SGt and have been in for 9 years. that being said. I am not a fan of drone technology. The Army for example is putting similiar technology into vehichles that drives them selves, Guns that can be shot by remote control. and we allready have planes that can bomb via proxy. we are fastly approaching the time when our warfare can be conducted via remote control. and non of our soldiers ever go into harms way. the problems i see are the fact that our politicians arent overly worried about the financial cost of warfare. the human cost however still bears a significant impact in both preventing the foolish use of the military and keeps the american public involved as it is little johnny from next door whose life is own the line. without the human cost i fear a government to eager to use first and a public to apathitic to stop them.
oh and as far as safety goes. drone pilots in nevada have shown the highest percentage of PTSD then even the infantry. some of the current thought as to why is the fact that the drone opperator hovers the plane arround the aftermath of the bombing for several hours, and then goese home to his familly to try to pretend he didnt just bomb a village that day. psycologically a very hard fact to deal with
These Aircrafts (Drones) like A LOT like the planes that hit the Twin Towers on 9/11/01. I believe our own Gov't & Military were behind it all....
