At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

The Purpose of Entitlements

And the takers in society are not worried because they will never be expected to pay up.

The world of Popeye lives, and we suffer through it.

Yes, Opus is correct in the short run, the takers are just fine with this arrangement.

But time is not on the taker's side. In the long run, when the system goes bust (and it will, unless common sense prevails at some point), they will go out to their mailbox, open it up and find cobwebs where once there were government checks.

Then let the worrying begin....on EVERYBODY'S part. These takers are not equipped to provide for themselves and their families, and will likely take up arms to keep the gravy train rolling. They don't know any other way.

Fredd is right, time ultimately is never on the takers {parasites} side.

Time rests with doers and producers. There may be a lot of pain awaiting us all before it gets bbetter.

But sooner or later it will all come back to the doers/producers.

Unions and government workers along with the welfare society make up over 50% of the citizenry right now. Are we doomed or what?

Scott, we may be doomed.
