At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

The Recession in a Nut Shell

Why are we as a nation, bankrupt?

There are a lot of people out there who would make the answer very complicated, but it's a very simple matter. (note above)

Astonishing. So simple, so misunderstood.

I once had a leftist argue with me that there was no such thing as entitlements or a welfare state.

Sometimes even simple graphics can't convince people of the obvious....

I've come to wonder if the reason the Left doesn't seem get worked up over the debt is because they really don't understand what money IS and how it works. I think they actually believe that as long as a government keeps printing green pieces of paper and announces that said paper has "value" that wealth will continue to be "created."

Even though improving economics education is not a "sexy" policy proposal, it may prove necessary to start digging ourselves out of this hole.

I just went on about the cost of the SS and Medicare dole out. The cost of the dole outs end up putting people on the dole!

The people who are paying for the ones getting the hand outs are getting REALLY tired of it!

Okay, my comment didn't post ... trying again ...

I just complained about the cost of SS and Medicare. It's a dole out. Paying for all the dole outs puts people on the dole when they run out of money.
