There has been a lot of effort put into development of anti-ship ballistic missiles by the People's Republic of China in their efforts to counter US Naval carrier battle groups operating in the ocean near its shores. To do this, they have had to develop a missile that can reach a terminal velocity approaching Mach 10 (speed of sound x10). With that sort of speed inbound, interception is difficult. The problem that the Chinese have is hitting the target squarely because precision for that sort of weapon is the key.
The DF-21D (CSS-5 Mod-4) Anti-ship ballistic missile is their latest attempt to fulfill that capability.
To counter the Chinese threat, the US is developing the Navy Standard Missile (Block 4):

I love vids like these. And the one from a couple years ago when the Navy took out that wayward satellite. Something about the violence of things colliding at Mach 10 just gives me the (good kind of) chills.
Looks like something Dr. Benton Quest would develop...
Neoconservatives- i thought you told China that you both are friends with a gesture of another trade pact?
