At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

Patriots

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot." -- Mark Twain

As the run-up to the mid-term election heats up, it's interesting to watch Democratic Party candidates re-cast themselves as fiscal conservatives. The Party of Hope and Change increased the budget deficit more than all previous administrations combined -- and now they're saying that they'll stop spending our children's inheritance. Sure, and when a pig flies past my window, I'll buy that blatant lie.

The Democratic Party has decided not to campaign on the ObamaCare train wreck they slammed through Congress without a single Republican vote. It will be difficult to repeal the 3,000 page healthcare bill, but you can rest assured that the Democrats won't do it.

In America the Patriot Movement (which would encompass the Tea Party) is a grass roots effort to restore order and Constitutionality to the Federal Government. It's the only way that we can Keep our Republic.

I'm in the same boat, Sandee. ObamaTrauma has beat me down too. The daily outrages of the past two years are very draining.

Heck yeah! The Dims will say anything to get elected. I will never forget the disdain with which they treated us while they spent like drunken sailors

Lots of people will say anything to get elected. It's the lust for power vs the truth and truth often come in a poor third.

I'm with WoFat - it's not just a Dem or Republican thing, it's a power thing. Yet at the moment, the Democratic Party seems to have been taken over by the extreme left and have certainly proved themselves wrong on every bill they've passed since being in power (including the bank bailout). I'm just hoping that the people realize that we still have the power to make real change, not the One.

And once we get the power back we need term limits so the people's business will be done, and not just doing favors and making promises to people who can help them win the next election.

I remember Franklin's quote from a history class in school. Does that tell you how old I am?
