At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

Alvin Greene Lashes Back!

Yesterday, Greene, speaking at a voter registration drive in Chesnee, SC, commented on his indictment. He said that it was a smear campaign against his candidacy. I understand that Greene, the Democratic Party's choice to represent them in the US Senate, may be inclined to lie because he's something like 65 points behind Republican incumbent, Jim DeMint. Seriously, lying got Greene's role model, barack hussein obama, elected to the highest office in the land.

Greene's assertion that the accusation of his misconduct is a smear campaign when the arrest was in November 2009 and his candidacy filing was in April 2010 makes no sense. How is it that someone can mount a smear campaign five months before his status as a political figure? Very odd.

Before he filed for political office, he was an unemployed part-time student, looking for love on campus and finding a woman who reported him. Who would have thought to "set him up"?

Meanwhile, the Greene campaign to reduce unemployment by selling Alvin Greene action figures is doing a brisk business.

And his rap video seems to be gaining popularity.

He can also boast of being a legitimate US Citizen! That's quite a boast when you consider others who have hidden their citizenship and other records. Alvin may be a cretin, but he's an open book.

Although I find this somewhat amusing and I say somewhat because he is playing with real Americans, I wonder if he is or will be eligible to vote come November?

Christopher - it surprises me but he DOES have a following in South Carolina. Even if he can't vote for himself because he'll be a convicted felon, he will likely get thousands of votes - not just votes from his mom, dad and brother.

Pretty weird.
