California is almost as politically disgusting as Illinois
Meg Whitman, Republican candidate for California governor, formerly purported to be tough on illegal immigration, has flip-flopped on her position and now courts the notion of a sanctuary state. It's not a bad political move because Republicans are caught between voting for her (while holding their noses) or voting for her opponent, Democrat Jerry (Moonbeam) Brown, whose failed previous term as governor is legendary in California. Once again, there is no viable choice for an acceptable governor in California. It reminds me of the contest between Lungren (R) and Davis (D) in which you had a contemptible, corrupt Republican running against a corrupt Democratic Party "Moonbeam Disciple".
In a perfect world, this would be struck down by the Supreme Court
A few weeks ago, the State Assembly passed three misguided bills that would further curtail the rights of lawful gun owners in California. These bills are:
- Expansion of Firearm Registration - AB 1810 expands the burdensome handgun registration law to include all firearms, such as rifles and shotguns.
- Ban on Traditional Hunting Ammo - AB 2223 makes it a crime to possess or use any shotgun shell loaded with anything other than nontoxic shot when hunting game or non-game species within a wildlife management area.
- Open Carry Ban - AB 1934 will outlaw the "open carry" of unloaded legal firearms in public places.
