At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

Thank you for posting! Having lived in S. Florida and knowing many LEGAL immigrants, most of them get very angry at the illegals. After all, the LEGAL immigrants went through the full process. Why shouldn't everyone else?

Krystal, you're on point here. Those here legally, who went through all the appropriate steps to become citizens are for the most part, proud of being Americans. The Illegals (Mexican Nationals) don't have the same connection to the USA and are proud of being Mexicans. Nothing wrong with that. Be proud in Mexico.
