At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

How Far Will Things Go?

I have been trying to determine the philosophical limit to which the Obama crowd is willing to push their utopian national socialist agenda.

Frederick Douglass, one of the most prominent black Americans in history, and for some time, a slave, weighed in on the issue with profound insight:
"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue till they have resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they suppress."

There you have it. How much will we endure?

Dr Joseph Goebbels offered his opinion on the requirement of the government to suppress dissent through control of the media:
"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State."

As the Third Reich's propaganda minister, Dr. Goebbels was no stranger to the need for the government to lie. And one of the most effective ways to promote your lie is to declare that all who tell the truth are liars. There is a move for the White House to create (in effect) it's own news network to do this very thing. The attack on  FOX NEWS (click here) seems to be the beginning of the muscling to shut them down.

Since truth is the mortal enemy of the State, how long will we believe the lies?

My definition of political correctness is: A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical socialist minority,  rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream and other non-enquiring media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. The whole notion of political correct language has spawned a generation of cowards who are mortally afraid of saying anything for fear that what they will say will offend someone in some way. The White House is currently running with this ball, suggesting that any language that anyone finds offensive smacks of "hate", therefore the speaker is committing a "hate crime". And the Constitutional right to free speech goes right out the window.

Will we accept limits to the Freedom of Speech?

Is the term "Patriot" a dirty word? In the lexicon of the present usage, it might become very similar to the term "Domestic Terrorist" as defined by Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano. (Returning veterans, Tea Party Activists, pro-life advocates, those who oppose illegal immigration, etc.)

Are we Patriots? Or are we afraid to be known by that name/title?

The single biggest reason why the American public has not taken up arms against “Hate” crimes legislation is because for the vast majority of Americans, nothing has changed in their lives. They see their existence as business as usual. They are, for the most part, wholly uneducated about history, and equally content to assume that their freedoms will always be in place. A warning concerning the dire consequences if certain legislation is or is not passed is simply noise from the TV or radio from the same crowd that is always creating noise on the TV or radio. Legislative battles are something that “they” do in “Washington,” as if the “they” in question are characters in a play and “Washington” is an imaginary city on the west coast. And it might as well be. Most Americans cannot find Washington, D.C. on a map. Rank and file America has not yet been told to shut up because the words they are expressing are “hateful,” and until that happens (at the point of a gun), making it to next week’s pay check is still the primary concern. Frankly, as long as they can still survive from one paycheck to the next, they will do it quietly. It is the time lag between when laws are passed and when they are enforced that allows the tyrant to determine “the exact amount of injustice and wrong” that the people will tolerate. The longer the gap, the more injustice society will tolerate, and the faster the tyrant will try to push his changes. Thus, we have thousands of pages of legislation that legislators will not read, that MUST be passed IMMEDIATELY. The sheeple are ready to be shorn.

Libertarian Advocate - of course! You don't need to ask. We're all on the same page here.

The President (or his people, rather) tweeted a few days ago about how he had just signed a bill that will protect us from hate or violence or something based on the color of our skin, who we are sexually attracted to and how we pray.

Funny, I thought discrimination and violence were already illegal...

Our schools no longer teach students how to think logically or evaluate and parse a statement, and for a rebuttal. This really helps the process along.

Victoria - discrimination and violent behavior toward others are illegal. For some reason, Obama wants people to feel that they weren't illegal until he showed up.

Foutsc - critical thinking and analysis skills are not taught or valued. And it will be our undoing.

“Hey…I’m proud of the greatest nation on earth… I love my country”….

I’m sending this greeting and invitation to my fellow American’s, (and others) who blog and whose blogs that I read “daily” since I got going on this with you all... to give a listen to my post “Viva America-Tribute to our Military”.

It’s for both our troops around the world protecting and creating democracy, and also for those of us who are also trying to preserve “the same” (including our own here at home)… in any way that we can.
America “IS” a beautiful place, friends, folks…

We can love it, we can hate it. But there’s no denying all of the very and historically, “real change” that this great nation has either brought upon, delivered, created, or set an example of… to the world. No denying.

We’re in some rough and uncharted waters folks. Times are (always) changing…and I think that’s good. But all of you and the multitudes of others, are very much aware of what’s right and what’s wrong, and know that “civilization”, freedom, (liberties come with freedom), democracy, dignity, and ethical moral conduct, are the only things that will preserve freedom, challenge oppression, and offer peace to this ever changing world.

At the very least, I hope you might hum the chorus while you keep up the gallant and good fight to what is going on in our beloved city…America (The beautiful)
