At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

Town Hall Politics and ObamaCare

I normally don't watch MSNBC, but I did watch Hard Ball tonight.

Gerald Shea (AFL-CIO) was there making snide comments about people who participated at town hall meetings and pledged to support the Obama Health Care Program where his retired members would receive free health care for life (at our expense). The Labor Unions pledge to send organizers to rally the membership at town hall meetings.

Chris Matthews crowed about "town mauls" and hinted that the conservatives were a faux representation, of bussed-in agitators and organized opposition to the Obama Plan.

In all cases, they misrepresented the bill and the president's intentions to impose a single-payer health plan...if not now, then by degrees until all health care was government-managed health care.

Anyone opposed to the Democratic sponsored plan was painted as a "whacko" who is too stupid to understand the Health Care Bills in the House and Senate. The radical left wants to paint us as irresponsible, uninformed and dangerous to the welfare of the nation.

There are those of us who are pro-life who will be sidelined by the new government healthcare
plan that will work hard to push abortions (much less expensive than pre-natal care, delivery and healthcare for children) for the sake of economic conservation of tax-payer funds.

The bottom line is that AMERICA DOES NOT TRUST THE GOVERNMENT. How could that be since Big Brother loves us?

BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT LIES TO US. Our president is a notorious liar and those lies are legion. There is a socialist agenda that underpins everything he does and we don't trust that he has our best interests at heart. It's not about race, it's about political philosophy. Americans are generally tired of big government. We are tired of wasteful spending on programs that don't work.

We're tired of the politics of pork-spending and selfishness. That's why we show up at town hall meetings.

ORGANIZED? You have to be kidding. We're all from different religions or no religion at all, from different countries, different races, different ages and we show up irritated. The Democrats don't think that people can do that without being paid to shout, bussed in, whipped into a frenzy and bought lunch. GUESS WHAT - Times have changed. We aren't organized. We're concerned. We're worried, and we have cause to be since we feel that we have no voice in government.

For the greater part, our representatives are not protecting us nor are they acting according to our wishes. They have succumbed to power of the Party Machine - they've been co-opted by threats from the radical left. Conscience, never in abundance in Washington, has taken a holiday.

The only conscience remaining is that core of Americans who are branded as "a mob" by television commentators who work for the state-run media. That's almost the way the British felt about the Sons of Liberty in 1776.
