At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, followed Benjamin Franklin from Independence Hall. He recorded a question asked by a lady, directed at Dr. Franklin.

The lady asked, "Well Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?"

"A republic," replied Dr. Franklin, "if you can keep it."

Freedom for Security = Neither

Since 9/11 security has been a item of focus in this country. No doubt it is an issue as we clearly witnessed on 9/11. In reviewing what has transpired since 9/11, it is actually quite shocking where we are today in terms of security at the cost of freedom.

US Patriot Act: NSA, FBI, DHS all have legal right to read your emails chats, TEXT's, and listen to your conversations under the 'security' doctrine. This is a few big issues among much more outlined in the Patriot Act.

War on Terrorism: If you are a determined to be a 'threat' to this country, American or non-American, you will be treated as such. In today's environment, if you are against Obama Care and make your voice known, your a 'terrorists'. If you voice your opinion on line via blogs, chat rooms, and social networking sites your a terrorist (I guess that would make me a terrorist according to Janet Napolitano and the White House).

Financial Crisis: If you are making too much money through capitalism in this country, you are a 'financial terrorists' and the Gov't will exploit your evil doings and restrict your compensation.

Obama Care: You are a Nazi if you voice against the Socialized Medicine plan that Congress/Obama are promoting despite their constituents opinions. You are also going to be tattled tailed on if you knowingly raise a voice in opposition to the Obama Care program. Know if you voice your opinion at a Town Hall meeting on health care, you will be escorted out of the meeting and arrested for "Attempted Aggravated Assault".

I personally don't think that giving up our freedom, privacy, and constitutional rights for 'security' is worth pursuing. There are other ways to protect our country against is enemies than restricting our rights and freedoms. I hope we understand the urgency of standing for our rights in a time like this. Freedom and Liberty are under attack and we need to fight to keep it.

I'm with you on this, Jed. It is ridiculous what is happening.

Just stopped by to help strengthen the link between us. Did you know that there *are* ways to make e-mails and VOIP phone calls VERY secure from even the NSA's casual glances? free software exists for the very reasons you state. I just thought I'd point this out. Search Secure VOIP or secure e-mail.

Best regards,

The pansy dems are either cancelling their town hall meetings or switching to "conference calls"; I say we start staking out their offices in their districts and swarming them when they come out.
